Setting message notification preferences in the RingCentral desktop and web app

In the RingCentral desktop and web app, you can configure message notifications for a specific conversation with a user or team. Your customized settings will also be applied to your RingCentral mobile app.

Muting a conversation

  1. Go to Message in the left navigation bar.
  2. Hover over a conversation and click the three-dot More icon to the right of the user or team name.

In a conversation, click the three-dot More icon at the top right of the message window.

  1. Click Mute conversation in the dropdown. A muted conversation is marked with a Muted conversation icon next to the name of the user or team.

Configuring notification preferences for a conversation

  1. Go to Message in the left navigation bar.
  2. Hover over a conversation and click the three-dot More icon to the right of the user or team name.
    OR
    In a conversation, click the three-dot More icon at the top right of the message window.
  3.  Select Notification preferences, then adjust the following settings:

  • Mute conversation: Check the box to mute all notifications in this conversation unless you’re directly @mentioned. Uncheck the box to unmute the conversation. 
    • You can also mute or unmute a conversation by clicking either of its three-dot More icons, then clicking Mute/Unmute Conversation.
      Note: Muted conversations aren’t pushed to the top of your list of recent messages, and don’t have badge counts. However, conversations with unread messages will be displayed in a bold font.
  • Turn on desktop notifications: Check the box to turn on desktop notifications for this conversation, then use the dropdown to select a notification sound for messages. If you want new message notifications and badge counts without desktop sounds or notification alerts, uncheck the box. 
    Note: New conversations will be pushed to the top of your list of messages.
  • Turn on mobile notifications: Click the dropdown to select Every message or Off.
  • Turn on email notifications: Click the dropdown to select Every 15 minutes, Every hour, or Off.
  1. Click Save.
