Creating and adding members to a group chat in the
RingCentral
app

In your messages, use group chats to communicate with two or more coworkers. You can start a new group chat, add people to an existing conversation, or convert a group chat into a team if you want to keep your message history.
Where would you like to manage your group chat?
## Desktop & web
Starting a group chat in the desktop and web app
------------------------------------------------
* Click **
Message
** in the navigation bar.
* Click the **New message** plus icon (a) next to Direct messages, or click the **New actions** plus icon (b) at the top right and select **New message** .
* In the **Members** field, enter two or more names or email addresses, separated by commas or semicolons.
* Type a message into the box and click **Send** .
Group conversations appear under **Direct messages** and are labeled with the members' names in alphabetical order.
Adding new members to your group chat
-------------------------------------
If you want to add one or more people to an existing group chat:
* Click **Message** in the navigation bar.
* Select the group chat from the left panel.
* Click the **Show details** arrow icon at the top right.
* If your app is in compact view, click the three-dot **More** icon and select **Show details**.
* Under Members, click the **Add people** icon.
* Enter the names or email addresses of those you want to add to the group chat.
* Select **Start a new chat (no message history)** .
* The new members will join the chat but won't be able to see any of the conversation that took place before they joined.
* Click **Next** .
Converting to group chat to a team
----------------------------------
If you want to add new people to a group chat and turn it into a team:
* Click **Message** in the navigation bar.
* Select the group chat from the left panel.
* Click the **Show details** arrow icon at the top right.
* If your app is in compact view, click the three-dot **More** icon and select **Show details**.
* Under Members, click the **Add people** icon.
* Enter the names or email addresses of those you want to add to the group chat.
* Select **Convert to a team (keep message history)** .
* All members will be part of a new [team](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/Creating-a-new-team-in-the-RingCentral-app.html?brand=RingCentral&product=RingEX&language=en_US ""). The conversation history will be visible, and will be moved under the Teams menu in the left panel.
* Click **Next** .
* Enter a **Team name** , then click **Convert to team** .
## Mobile
Starting a group chat in the mobile app
---------------------------------------
* Tap **Message** in the bottom toolbar.
* Tap the **Plus** icon at the top right and select **New message**.
* In the **To:** field, enter two or more names or email addresses, separated by commas or semicolons.
* Type a message into the box and tap the **Send** icon.
The conversation will appear under the **Direct** tab. You can add additional members right away by tapping **Add members**.
Adding new members to your group chat
-------------------------------------
If you want to add one or more people to an existing group chat:
* Tap **Message** in the bottom toolbar.
* Under the **Direct** tab, tap on a group chat.
* Tap the names in the top bar.
* Tap **Add members**.
* Enter the names or email addresses of those you want to add to the group chat, then tap **Next**.
* In the popup, tap **Add to this group**.
