Using @mentions in the
RingCentral
app

Use @mentions to notify one or more people about a specific message in a conversation. You can @mention individuals, multiple people, or an entire team in both new and existing messages.
@mentions can also be used to add people to a team or link a team to an existing conversation.
Where would you like to use @mentions?
## Desktop & web
Viewing @mentions in the desktop and web app
--------------------------------------------
@mentions help you quickly identify messages that need your attention. When you @mention someone, their name appears in blue text.
When another person @mentions you, your name will be highlighted in orange.
To view all of your direct @mentions in one place, click the three-dot **More** icon (a) at the top right of the **
Message
** panel, then click the **@** icon (b). The most recent messages will be at the top.
To view all of your **Unread** direct and team @mentions in one place, click the **Filter** icon (a) at the top of the conversation list, then select *Unread @mentions* (b) in the dropdown. The most recent messages will be at the top.
Mentioning a person or team in a conversation
---------------------------------------------
In every type of conversation, if you're [quoting another user's message](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/Managing-your-messages-in-the-RingCentral-app.html?brand=RingCentral&product=RingEX&language=en_US#quote ""), or [replying in a message thread](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/managing-message-threads-in-the-ringcentral-app.html?brand=RingCentral&product=RingEX&language=en_US ""), it automatically inserts an @mention directed at that person.
If you're a member of a public team, you can also @mention that team in any conversation.
* In the navigation bar, click **
Message
**.
* Select a conversation from the list.
* Enter *@* or *#* anywhere in your message, followed by the name of the team you want to mention.
* Select the team from the list.
* Enter your message text, then send your message.
Using @mentions in direct messages and group chats
--------------------------------------------------
In direct messages and [group chats](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/Adding-a-member-to-your-group-conversation-in-the-RingCentral-app.html?brand=RingCentral&product=RingEX&language=en_US ""), you can only @mention people who are already part of the conversation.
To manually @mention someone:
* In the navigation bar, click **
Message
**.
* Select a conversation from the list.
* Enter the *@* symbol in the message field to reveal a dropdown with possible matches.
* In the dropdown, the person's presence and status is alongside their name, so you can check their availability before sending the @mention.
* Begin entering a name to narrow your search results, then select one or more names to include in your message.
* Enter your message text, then send your message.
Using @mention in team conversations
------------------------------------
In team conversations, you can alert all members of a team to a specific message, by using *@team*.
* In the navigation bar, click **
Message
**.
* Select a conversation from the list.
* Enter the term *@team* anywhere in your message text, then select *Team (notify everyone)*.
* Enter your message text, then send your message.
When you send an *@team* message:
* All team members will receive a notification.
* *Team* will be highlighted in orange.
* All team members will see a *team mention* icon next to the team's name in the conversation list.
Note
Team admins can turn *@team* mentions on or off in the [Team admin settings](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/Managing-a-teams-profile-in-the-RingCentral-app.html?brand=RingCentral&product=RingEX&language=en_US "") tab in the team profile.
Using @mention to add a person to a team
----------------------------------------
If you have permission to add team members, the @mention dropdown lets coworkers who aren't already team members join the team.
* In the navigation bar, click **
Message
**.
* Select a team conversation from the list.
* Enter the *@* symbol in the message and start to add the person's name, then click **Add team member to @mention** .
* In the popup, enter the names or email addresses, then click **Add** .
