Turning on the Heads-up display (HUD) and managing extensions
=============================================================

The Heads-up display (HUD) organizes your most frequently used extensions into a single, convenient view. You can quickly identify if a user is available, in a meeting, or offline. If they've set a custom status message, it'll also be displayed.

In the HUD, you can create folders to organize extensions and easily call, text, and monitor them in one place. If your admin has added you to any groups, they'll also appear in your HUD.

Note  
HUD isn't available in the mobile app. It's only accessible using the desktop and web apps.

Turning on the HUD
------------------

Before you can use the HUD, you'll need to confirm the feature is on.

* Click **Settings** in the navigation bar.
* Click **Phone**.
* Under General, click the toggle to turn on the **Heads-up display (HUD)** .

  Tip  
  If you [monitor other extensions](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/Creating-Call-Monitoring-Groups.html?brand=RingCentral&product=RingEX&language=en_US ""), click **Manage** , then check the box next to **Ring when extensions I am monitoring receive incoming calls** . Click **Save**.

Managing your HUD extensions
----------------------------

To access the HUD:

* Click **Phone** in the navigation bar.
* The HUD will be displayed in the right panel of the **Keypad** tab. If you're in a minimized view, you may need to click the **HUD** tab in the left panel.

All extensions are displayed by default. For a different view, click the filter dropdown to select all extensions, a specific folder, or a group. Groups may include:

* [Delegated calls](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/Using-delegated-lines-in-the-RingCentral-app.html?brand=RingCentral&product=RingEX&language=en_US ""): View, answer, or make calls made on behalf of someone else.
* [Park locations](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/Parking-and-retrieving-calls-in-the-RingCentral-app.html?brand=RingCentral&product=RingEX&language=en_US ""): View or pick up parked calls.
* [Group call pickup](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/Using-the-HUD-for-Group-Call-Pickup-in-the-RingCentral-app.html?brand=RingCentral&product=RingEX&language=en_US ""): View or pick up a call from a group.
* [Call queue pickup](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/Setting-up-your-RingCentral-app-to-receive-queue-calls.html?brand=RingCentral&product=RingEX&language=en_US ""): View or pick up calls from a call queue.

### Adding extensions to your HUD

When you add an extension, it's placed at the top of the list.

* Click the **Add** plus icon at the top right.
* Click **Add extensions** .

* Type the name or extension number into the **Search contacts** field, then click the user to add them. You can add up to 100 extensions.
* Click the **Folder** dropdown if you want to add the extensions to a [custom folder](#adding-folders "").
* Click **Add**.

### Sorting the extensions in your HUD

You can sort the extensions in your view by clicking the **Sort** icon and selecting:

* *Manual*: Allows you to drag and drop the extensions into your preferred order. Note that if you're in the folder view, you can't manually sort unassigned extensions.
* *Alphabetical*: Sort all extensions from A to Z.
* *Reverse Alphabetical* : Sort all extensions from Z to A.

### Removing extensions from your HUD

To delete extensions from your HUD:

* In the list, hover over the extension and click the three-dot **More** icon.
* Click the **Remove** trash can icon, then click **Remove** again in the confirmation window.
  * If you remove an extension from a folder, you can move it to your unassigned extensions list or remove it from the HUD completely.

Adding folders to your HUD
--------------------------

You can further organize your HUD by creating folders.

* Click the **Add** plus icon at the top right.
* Select **Add folder** .

* In the popup, enter a name for the folder.
* Type the name or extension number into the **Search contacts** field, then click the user to add them. You can add up to 100 extensions.
* Select a **Color tag** to change the folder's font color, if desired.
* Click **Add**.
* Click and hold the folder name, then drag it to reorder the folders.
* Click the **Folder** icon to switch back and forth between the list and folder views.

Viewing the HUD in a separate window
------------------------------------

The HUD can be popped out into a separate window and viewed independently from the app.

* Click the **Pop out** icon (A) at the top and move or resize the window to your preferred position.
* Click the three-dot **More** icon (B) and click the toggle to **Pin the window on top** (desktop app only) to keep the window in front of all other applications on your screen.

* To move the HUD back within the app, click the **Reattach** icon (C) at the top right.
