Using delegated lines in the <var class="keyword">

A delegated line, or bridged call appearance (BCA), is a phone extension shared by a group of users. These users can answer and make calls on behalf of the delegated line [using the HUD feature](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/Managing-your-HUD-extensions-in-the-RingCentral-app.html?brand=RingCentral&product=RingEX&language=en_US#GUID-b507eac1-f3ac-4b88-a151-fcda0590fe9b "").

Once an admin [creates delegated lines](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/Configuring-delegated-lines-RingCentral-account.html?brand=RingCentral&product=RingEX&language=en_US#Configuring-delegated-lines-RingCentral-account ""), group members need to turn on their HUD and [add the extension](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/Managing-your-HUD-extensions-in-the-RingCentral-app.html?brand=RingCentral&product=RingEX&language=en_US "").

Where do you want to use delegated lines?

## Desktop & web

Turning on the HUD in the desktop and web app
---------------------------------------------

* Click **Settings** in the navigation bar.
* Click **Phone**.
* Under General, click the toggle to turn on the **Heads-up display (HUD)** .

* Next to the toggle, click **Manage** , then check the box next to **Ring when extensions I am monitoring receive incoming calls**.
* Click **Save** .

* If your HUD is empty, add one or more extensions before using delegated lines.
  * In the navigation bar, click **Phone**.
  * In the **HUD** tab, click the **Plus** icon at the upper right, then click **Add extensions** .

  * Type the name or extension number into the Search contacts field, then click the user to add them. You can add up to 100 extensions.
  * Click **Add**.

Calling on behalf of the delegated line
---------------------------------------

* In the navigation bar, click **Phone**.
* In the **HUD** tab, locate the extension. Delegated lines will have a **Delegator** badge next to the name.
* Hover over the extension, click the **Call on behalf** icon, and a keypad will open.

* Enter the name or number you want to call.
* Click the **Call** button.

At the top of the keypad is the name and caller ID of the Delegated line you are calling on behalf of. Use the [call controls](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/Phone-call-controls-in-the-RingCentral-app.html?brand=RingCentral&product=RingEX&language=en_US "") to manage the active call.

Important  
If you click **Call on behalf**, but don't make a call, you'll need to change the caller ID back to your own phone number or extension, or the delegate's caller ID will be displayed on your next outgoing call.

Managing calls on a delegated line
----------------------------------

You can be anywhere in the app when calls come in on the delegated line, but to view and manage the group's connections, open the HUD.

* In the navigation bar, click **Phone**.
* In the right panel, click the **HUD** tab.
* Click the name of the Delegated line. In the main panel, the available connections are on the left, and the group members and group owner are listed on the right.

### Delegated line controls in the HUD

* **Incoming call** (a): Click the **Pick up call** icon to answer a call.
* **On hold** (b): Click the **Pick up call** icon for any call that was placed on hold by a group member. Note: If you placed the call on hold, you can transfer the line without having to pick it up again.
* **Transfer** (c): Click the **Transfer** icon to [transfer the caller](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/Transferring-a-call-in-the-RingCentral-app.html?brand=RingCentral&product=RingEX&language=en_US "") to another number or extension.
* **Barge** (d): When a group member is on an active call, click the **Barge** icon to join the conversation. Note: If you hang up on that call, the caller and other group member will continue their conversation.

## Mobile

Turning on the HUD in the mobile app
------------------------------------

* Tap your profile icon.
* Tap **Phone**.
* Under General, tap **Heads-up display (HUD)** , then tap the toggle to turn on the **HUD** .

* Tap the toggles to turn on **Ring when extensions I am monitoring receive incoming calls** and **Use delegated line group when calling from my primary number**.
* Select the delegated line group to apply this update.

* If your HUD is empty, add one or more extensions before using delegated lines.
  * In the bottom toolbar, tap **Phone**.
  * In the top toolbar, tap **HUD**.
  * At the top right, tap the three-dot **More** icon.
  * Tap **Add extensions**.
  * Type the name or extension number into the Search contacts field, then tap the user to add them. Repeat with as many extensions as you'd like to add.
  * Tap **Done**.

Calling on behalf of the delegated line
---------------------------------------

* In the top toolbar, tap **HUD**.
* Tap **Make a Call** on a delegated line, and a keypad will open.
* Enter the name or number you want to call.
* Tap the **Call** button.

At the top of the keypad is the name of the Delegated line you are calling on behalf of. Use the [call controls](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/Phone-call-controls-in-the-RingCentral-app.html?brand=RingCentral&product=RingEX&language=en_US&pills-nav=mobile "") to manage the active call.
