Setting up and using click-to-dial in the RingCentral app

With click-to-dial turned on, you can click a linked phone or fax number to place a call or send a fax through the RingCentral app. 
 
To use click-to-dial, make sure:
Note: Phone features can only be turned on by a company admin.

Setting up click-to-dial

  1. Go to Settings in the left navigation bar.
  2. Click the Phone tab.
  3. Under General, turn on Use RingCentral for click to dial and fax.

  1. Set RingCentral as your default app for click-to-dial.

  1. Open Windows search and enter Protocol in the search field.
  2. Select Choose a default app for each link type (in Windows 10, it will be Choose a default app for each protocol).
  3. Scroll to CALLTO and click Choose a default
    1. If you already have a default app, click the app icon. 
    2. In the Choose an app window, select RingCentral, then click OK.
  4. Scroll to FAX and click Choose a default.

    2. In the Choose an app window, select RingCentral, then click OK.

  1. Open the FaceTime app.
  2. Click the FaceTime menu.
  3. Click Preferences. Note: You’ll need to be signed in with your Apple ID to access the Preferences menu.
  4. For Default for calls, select RingCentral.

Using click-to-dial

  1. Make sure you’re signed in to the RingCentral app on your desktop.
  2. On any website, click a number you wish to call.

  1. On the Make a call from popup, select RingCentral to open the dialpad and automatically make a call.

Using the Click-to-Dial feature in the RingCentral app desktop and web

The click-to-dial feature allows you to register the RingCental desktop app as a default app on your computer to handle click-to-dial and click-to-fax. When this setting is on, RingCentral will automatically open when you click on any telephone or fax number on websites that support callto:, Tel:, and fax: protocols.
 
Your admin must first enable phone features at the account level to use the click-to-dial feature in the RingCentral app on your computer. You must also ensure that you set the RingCentral app as the default phone app for calling and that your emergency address is up to date. See Configuring phone settings in the RingCentral app desktop and web to learn more.

Configuring Click-to-Dial on Windows and Mac

  1. Go to Settings via the left navigation bar.
  2. Click the Phone tab on the left pane.
  3. Under General, slide the toggle at the far right of Use RingCentral for click to dial and fax to enable or disable the click-to-dial feature.
How to register RC as the default app for calling and faxing
After enabling the click-to-dial/fax setting in the RingCentral app, you will need to check your operating system settings to make sure that RingCentral is set as the default app for calls and fax.

  1. Go to Settings via the Windows menu.
  2. Go to Apps > Default apps.
  3. Select Choose default apps by protocol.
  4. Click Choose a default on the right side of CALLTO.
  5. On the Choose an app window, select RingCentral.
  6. Click Choose a default on the right side of FAX.
  7. On the Choose an app window, select RingCentral.

To set the RingCentral app for desktop as the default app for click-to-dial/fax on Mac, you will need to set it in the FaceTime app. 
  1. Open the FaceTime app via the menu bar on your Mac computer.
  2. Click FaceTime.
  3. Click Preferences.
  4. Click the dropdown menu for Default for calls and select RingCentral.

Using Click-to-Dial on Windows and Mac

Once you have ensured that the information above is completed, you can start using the click-to-dial feature in the RingCentral app for desktop.  
  1. Ensure that you are logged in to the RingCentral app for desktop for the automatic launching to work.
  2. Click on the number you wish to call on a website page.
