Managing notifications and sounds in the
RingCentral
app
==========================================================================================================================
The
RingCentral
desktop, web, and mobile apps let you select the types of notifications and sounds you want to receive for new messages, as well as for voice and video calls. You can also set reminder notifications for scheduled events.
[If you're using the
RingCentral
Phone app, you'll need to update your notifications and sounds preferences within that app](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/configuring-notifications-sounds-phone-app.html?brand=RC_US&product=RingCentral_Phone&language=en_US "").
You can also use the [
Admin Portal
](https://service.ringcentral.com "") to configure email and text message notifications. If you're an admin, you can update other users' preferences.
Where do you want to set up notifications and sounds?
## Desktop & web
Accessing notification settings
-------------------------------
* In the navigation bar, click **Settings**.
* Click **Notifications** .
Desktop notifications
---------------------
Choose when and how you'd like notifications for messages, calls, voicemails, and meetings.
* **Browser notifications** : Receive notifications within your web browser. This feature is only available in the
RingCentral
web app (not shown).
* **New messages** (a): Select the type of messages you want to receive notifications for.
* *All new messages*: Receive notifications for all new messages.
* *Direct messages and mentions* : Receive notifications for direct messages and [@mentions](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/Using--mentions-in-the-RingCentral-app.html?brand=RingCentral&product=RingEX&language=en_US "") only.
* *Off*: Receive no notifications.
* **Incoming calls** (b): Receive notifications for incoming calls.
* **Call waiting audio alert** (c): Select how you'd like to get notifications when you receive an incoming phone call while on a call.
* *Default ringtone*: Audio alert will play when on a call.
* *Beep once*: Alert with a single beep.
* *Silent*: No audio alert.
* **Missed calls and new voicemails** (d): Receive notifications for missed calls and new voicemails.
* **Bounce app icon** or **Flash app icon** (e): Bounce (Mac) or Flash the app icon in your dock or start bar when you receive a notification. Select *Bounce continuously* , *Bounce once* , or *Off* . This feature is available only in the
RingCentral
desktop app.
* **Always show notifications when the app is in the foreground** (f): Receive notifications even when the app is in the foreground and in use.
* **Upcoming meeting reminder** (g): Choose how long before the start of a meeting you'd like to be notified. Select *Don't notify me* , *When meeting starts* (default), or from one to 15 minutes before a meeting begins.

Note: If you're using the
RingCentral
app on Chrome, Firefox, or Safari, make sure you turn on notifications in your browser settings, as well. If you have notifications turned off in your web browser, go to your browser settings and either allow any site to show desktop notifications, or allow sites to ask for permission to show notifications.
Sounds
------
Select the notification sound you want to hear for each type of message, meeting, and call by clicking the dropdown at the far right of each setting. You can click the **Speaker** icon next to the name of each sound to preview it.
You can select a sound for each of these notifications:

Email notifications
-------------------
Choose how you'd like to receive email notifications for different types of messages.
* **Direct messages** (a): Change how often you receive email notifications for direct messages. Choose from *Every 15 minutes* , *Every hour* , or *Off*.
* **Mentions** (b): Turn email notifications on or off for @mentions of your name. This category doesn't include @team mentions.
* **Teams** (c): Change how often you receive email notifications for teams that aren't muted. Choose from *Every 15 minutes,* *Every hour* , or *Off*.
* **Text** (d): Turn email notifications on or off for text messages.
## Mobile
The
RingCentral
mobile app can notify you of account activity with email or push notifications.
Note:
* If you're using more than one mobile device, you have to manage the settings separately.
* If you are using the [
RingCentral
Phone app](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/configuring-notifications-sounds-phone-app.html?brand=RC_US&product=RingCentral_Phone&language=en_US ""), you have to manage the settings separately.
* Your mobile device settings won't sync with your desktop app settings.
* Android users: You might get delayed or no notifications if you've added the
RingCentral
app to your list of sleeping apps.
* You can also use the [

* Tap your **Profile** picture at the top left.
* Tap **Notifications** .
Mobile notifications
--------------------
* **Receive notifications** : Select when you'll receive mobile notifications:
* *When inactive*: Receive notifications after 15 minutes of inactivity.
* *Always*: Always receive notifications.
* *Never*: You won't receive notifications.
* **Direct messages**: Receive notifications when someone sends you a direct message.
* **Mentions** : Receive notifications when someone [@mentions you or one of your teams](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/Using--mentions-in-the-RingCentral-app.html?brand=RingCentral&product=RingEX&language=en_US "") in a message.
* **Teams** : Select when you'll receive notifications for team messages:
* *Every message*: Receive notifications for every message sent to your teams.
* *First new message only*: Receive notifications for the first new message sent to your teams.
* *Off*: You won't receive notifications.
* **Missed calls, VMs, faxes, and texts**: Receive notifications for missed calls, voicemail messages, faxes, and text messages.
* **Upcoming meeting reminder** : Select when you're reminded to join a meeting. You can select:
* *None*
* *30 seconds before*
* *1 minute before*
* *2 minutes before*
* *5 minutes before*
* *10 minutes before*
* *15 minutes before*
Notification sounds

* For Android users, tapping **Messages** , **Fax** , **Text** , and **Upcoming meeting reminder** opens the device settings page, where you can select a native sound and configure other settings. Tapping Incoming video calls opens the
RingCentral
app notification sounds.
* **Messages**: Select the notification sound for direct and team messages.
* **Text Messages**: Select the notification sound you hear for an incoming text message.
* **Faxes**: Select the notification sound when you receive a fax.
* **Upcoming meeting reminder**: Select the notification sound for an upcoming meeting reminder.
