End-to-end encryption is a privacy protocol that prevents third parties from accessing data when it's transferred between devices. With E2EE, data is encrypted on the sender's device and is decrypted only by its intended recipient.

E2EE serves three main purposes:

* Maintaining the confidentiality of your meetings' audio, video, screenshares, and chat.
* Protecting the contents of your meetings, even from your internet service provider.
* Preventing anyone from accessing your data, even if <var class="keyword">

  RingCentral
  </div></var>'s cloud servers are compromised.

Like many other online services, <var class="keyword">

</div></var> Video uses Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption as a first line of defense. However, TLS encryption can still leave data vulnerable to privacy breaches. <var class="keyword">

</div></var> offers E2EE as an additional level of privacy protection for video meetings.

Note: TLS encryption remains active at all times, even when E2EE is off.

* Hosts can apply extra privacy protection to any part of a meeting by turning E2EE on and off during the meeting. .
* Only hosts can adjust E2EE settings before or during meetings. The green shield icon lets all participants know that E2EE has been turned on.

  </div></var> Video meetings on devices that use the SIP/H.323 protocol, because such devices don't support E2EE.
