Using Limited Extensions for hot desking
----------------------------------------

Hot desking is supported on Limited Extension devices assigned to a Global RingEX phone number when the device is set up as or converted to a hot desking phone.

When a user isn't logged in, the hot desking phone can be used for:

* Incoming and outgoing phone calls from the number and address assigned to the device.
* Extension to extension calling.
* Emergency Services calling.

When a user is logged in, the hot desking phone:

* Uses the logged in user's identity and phone number.
* Follows local and international calling rules based on the user's role and permissions.
* Uses the dial plan associated with the user's DigitalLine.
* Will use the device-assigned phone number and address for emergency calling, not the user's.

### How can a common area phone or Limited Extension device be used when no user is logged in?

When no user is logged in to a common area phone, the deskphone supports emergency calling only.

When no user is logged in to a Limited Extension device, incoming and outgoing calls use the phone number assigned to the device, and extension-to-extension calling is available.

### Do I pay more for a deskphone set up with hot desking?

### How do I make and receive calls from a shared hot desking phone?

Press the **Login** soft key on the phone (or dial **\*90**), then enter your extension and PIN. The deskphone will apply your extension settings and is ready to use.

### Can the previous user be logged out of a shared phone if they forgot to log out?

Hot desking phones have a default session timeout of 12 hours. An admin can [change the hot desk session timeout duration](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/10659-Hot-Desking-Set-up-a-Session-Timeout.html?brand=RC_US&product=RingEX&language=en_US "") and also log users out of the device in the Admin Portal.
