Features and Benefits

• An optional feature that helps users explicitly indicate when dialing an internal extension vs. an external call.
• Resolves conflicts when the internal extension length overlaps with the country’s external number dial plan.
• Can be used with any extension length.
• Can be any digit between 2-9.
• A wizard will help resolve any conflicts between existing extensions during configuration, which start with the Outbound Call Prefix.
• After Outgoing Call Prefix is enabled, the Default Area Code feature is also enabled for countries that support it: US, Canada, Mexico, Australia, and China. The complete external number needs to be dialed outside of these countries.

Availability

• Available to all RingCentral MVP accounts.
• Ideal for accounts with 1000+ users where the internal extension length may overlap with the external country dial plan.
• Contact Support to enable the feature for your account.

Account Linking

• Outbound Call Prefix (OCP) is optional.
• It is strongly recommended to use the same OCP setting and digit across all linked accounts.
• If OCP is enabled for Linked Account 1 (set to 9) but OFF for Linked Account 2, then no extensions in either account can start with the OCP digit (9 in this case).
• If OCP is enabled for both Linked Accounts (set to 9 for acct 1, 8 for acct 2), then no extensions in either account can start with either OCP digit (8 and 9 in this case).

How to configure Outbound Call Prefix

1. Contact Support to enable Outbound Call Prefix on your account.
2. Log in to the RingCentral Admin portal.
3. Navigate to Admin Portal > More > Account Settings > Outbound Call Prefix.
4. Toggle to enable Use outgoing call prefix.
5. Enter the single-digit that users will dial before dialing an external number.
6. Click Validate & Save.
7. On the Adjust Extensions window, change any extensions that will conflict with the selected prefix digit.
8. If Site Codes are enabled, you will need to change any Site Codes and/or Short Extensions that start with the selected prefix digit.
9. Phones will reboot when the setting is enabled/updated. Active calls are not affected.

IMPORTANT:  When selecting the outbound call prefix digit, determine if the desired digit overlaps with special, reserved numbers based on your location(s). For example, in Poland, the Fire Brigade number is 998, and Municipal Police is 986. If ‘9’ is selected as the outbound call prefix digit, it will create an overlap between dialing the Fire Brigade without the prefix (998) and the Municipal Police with the prefix (9,98). Other countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, and Costa Rica have similar special numbers.

Making calls with Outbound Call Prefix

Scenario: Administrator sets ‘9’ as the Outbound Call Prefix for the account.

• The user is assigned a phone number 1 650 222 2222.
• A user would like to call 1 650 333 3333.
• The user dials the outbound call prefix, number 9 333 3333, and the system inserts the Default Area Code automatically. Default Area Code is available for US, Canada, Mexico, Australia, China phone numbers. If the feature is not available for your country, dial in-country numbers using the area code.
• The number can also be dialed as area code and number 650 333 3333.

Calling outside of the same area code.

• The user is assigned a phone number 1 650 222 2222.
• The user would like to call 1 305 444 4444.
• The user dials area code and number 305 444 4444.

Calling a different country.

• The user is assigned a phone number 1 650 222 2222.
• The user would like to call 44 20 5555 5555.
• User dials international dial prefix, country code, area code, and number 011 44 20 5555 5555.  See note.
• The user can also dial the number in e.164 format as +44 20 5555 5555.

Calling emergency or special services.

• Users can access special in-country services such as emergency or text relay with and without the outbound call prefix. E.g., 911 and 9 911 both connect the user with emergency services.
