Once you or someone else have posted a message in the conversation stream, there are several actions that you can take on a message, including the following:
  • Editing a message you sent
  • Deleting a message you sent
  • Reacting to a post with emojis
  • Pinning a message
  • Bookmarking a message
  • Quoting another person’s message
  • Creating a task from a message
Let’s learn more about each of these actions below. For information about creating a task from a message, visit Creating a task from a message in the RingCentral app desktop and web.

Editing a message

If you’d like to edit a message you’ve sent, follow these steps:
1. Navigate to Message via the left-hand navigation bar
2. Select a conversation from the conversation list
3. Hover your mouse over your sent message and select the Edit post pencil icon that appears at far right
4. Click into the message field and make any changes you’d like
5. Once you’ve finished editing your message, press Enter or Return on your keyboard to save your changes
Please note that there is a different process for editing a file attached to a message. If you’d like to learn more about editing an attached file, visit Managing attached files in the RingCentral app desktop and web

Deleting a message

If you’d like to delete a message you’ve posted, follow these steps:
1. Select a conversation from the conversation list
2. Hover your mouse over the message you’d like to delete and select the More three-dot icon that appears at far right
3. Click the Delete post trash can icon
4. Click the Delete red button to finish deleting the message
Please note: If you’re deleting a message that only contains an attached file and no text, you can skip step three from the list above but follow the remainder of the process.

Reacting to a post with emojis

Emoji reactions allow you to have a broader set of emoji-based options to react to a post in the RingCentral app. You can also upvote another emoji reaction if you agree with that feeling.

Emoji reactions are also a quick way to respond to a post. Oftentimes, a simple emoji reaction can substitute for a follow-up message.

The RingCentral app makes it easy to use emoji reactions. You can use the snackbar quick picker, which contains the emojis you frequently use, or the full array of emojis if you’d like to select one that you don’t often use.

Reacting to a post with emojis via the snackbar

To react to a post with emojis via the snackbar, follow these steps:
1. Select a conversation from the conversation list
2. Hover your mouse over the the message you want to react to
3. Click the smiley face React with emoji icon at the far right of the message
4. Select from one of the frequently used emojis
OR
Click the smiley face More emojis icon to select from the full array of emojis available

Reacting to a post with emojis via another reaction

If a post already has an emoji reaction, you can also react to that post with emojis next to another reaction. To do this, simply click the smiley face React with emoji icon beneath a message and select from one of the frequently used emojis. To select from the full array of emojis available, click the smiley face More emojis icon.

If you’d like to upvote another reaction or react using the same emoji, simply click on the emoji reaction beneath the message. Note that you can react to a post up to 20 times with different emojis. You can also remove your reaction by clicking on your emoji reaction beneath the message.

To view the voters of a post, hover your mouse over an emoji reaction. You will see the first names of up to 30 voters. After 30 names, it will show a number of how many others who used that emoji to react to the post.

Pinning a message

There may be times where you would like to save an important message that you think you or someone else will want to revisit later, you can choose to pin that message in the conversation.

If you want to return to that pinned message later, you can select the pin under the Pinned tab and the app will take you to the part of the conversation stream containing that message.

To pin a message, follow these steps:
1. Select a conversation from the conversation list
2. Hover your mouse over a message and select the More three-dot icon that appears at far right
3. Click the Pin thumbtack icon
Please note: If you want to pin messages containing no text and only events, tasks, attached files, and notes, you can skip step three from the list above but follow the rest of the process.

Once you’ve pinned a message, you can find that message in the conversation details panel at far right under the Pinned tab. You can select the pin under that tab and you will navigate to the part of the message thread containing that message.

To unpin the message, select the pin icon to the left of the pinned message in the conversation details pane.

Bookmarking a message

If you would like to save a message that you want to revisit later but don’t want to include in a conversation’s pinned messages, you can choose to bookmark that message and return to it later. You can access bookmarked messages via the Bookmarks tab at the top of the conversation list.

To bookmark a message, follow these steps:
1. Select a conversation from the conversation list
2. Hover your mouse over a message and select the More three-dot icon that appears at far right
3. Click the Bookmark ribbon icon

Viewing bookmarked messages

Once you’ve bookmarked a message, you can access that bookmark via the Bookmarks tab in the left-hand corner, above the conversation list. Here, you’ll find all your bookmarks listed with the most recent bookmarks at the top.

To see that bookmark in the conversation it was included in, simply hover your mouse over the bookmark and select the View in conversation button that appears at the top of the bookmark.

Quoting a message

If you would like to reply to a message made earlier in a conversation stream, you may choose to quote that message in addition to drafting a reply in order to inform the sender of the original message that you’re responding to their message.

To quote a message, follow these steps:
1. Select a conversation from the conversation list
2. Hover your mouse over the message you’d like to quote and click the Quote chat bubble icon. That message will appear in the message field at the bottom
3. Type your reply in the message field under the quoted message
4. Once you’re finished drafting your message, press Enter or Return to send that message
Please note: You will not be able to quote messages that only contain attached files, notes, tasks, or events.
