Organizing your conversations in the RingCentral app
desktop and web | RingCentral app

Whenever you start a new conversation, that conversation will appear in your conversation list in the left pane. These conversations are separated into two sections: Direct messages and Teams

The Direct messages section includes both one-on-one messages with another user as well as group conversations with two or more users. The Teams section, on the other hand, only includes active teams that you’ve joined.

Despite having two sections to help organize your conversations, you may find your conversation list getting fairly cluttered, especially if you have a lot of active conversations. There are a couple ways that you can further organize your conversations in the conversation list.

Showing unread messages

One way that you can organize your messages and remove the clutter in your conversation list is by choosing to filter your conversations by unread messages. This will also help ensure that you’re not missing important unread conversations because that conversation has been buried in your list.

To show only your unread messages in the conversation list, simply toggle the Show unread toggle on via the top of the conversation list pane.

Favoriting your conversations

If you have certain conversations that you want to keep track of or prioritize over others, you may choose to favorite those conversations and move them to the top of your conversation list under the Favorites section.

There are several ways to favorite a conversation, but for the purpose of this article, we’ll discuss one common method. To favorite a conversation, follow these steps:
1. Navigate to Message via the left-hand navigation bar
2. Hover your mouse over the conversation you want to favorite from the conversation list and select the More kabob icon that appears at far right of the name
3. Select the Favorite option from the dropdown menu
Once you’ve favorited a conversation, that conversation will appear at the top of your list under the Favorites section.

If you’re in a conversation, you can also see if a conversation has been favorited via the star icon beside the name of the user or team name in the conversation header bar. You can also select the star icon at any time to favorite or unfavorite that conversation.

Sorting your favorites

If you would like to sort your favorites by order of importance, you do so by clicking, holding down, and dragging any conversation and moving it up or down on the favorites list.

Organizing conversations by folder

Another way you can organize your conversations in the RingCentral app is with folders. You can conveniently group relevant conversations together by creating folders so that you can always access important information between multiple conversations.

Creating a folder
