You can use the dial pad in the RingCentral app to make outgoing calls to other users in the RingCentral app as well as external numbers. The dial pad is also where you’ll find all your call controls while you’re on a live call.
In the RingCentral desktop or web app, you can access the dial pad at any time by clicking on the Dial pad keypad icon at top right to pop the dial pad out into a modal window.
In the RingCentral mobile app, you can access the dial pad by tapping the Phone icon at the bottom of the app to open the Phone interface. The dial pad is located in the bottom right corner of the Calls and Voicemail tabs of the Phone interface.
Let’s review what you’ll find when you open the dial pad in both the desktop and web app and the mobile app.
Using the dial pad for desktop or web
When you open the dial pad in the desktop and web app, you’ll find the following options important for making outgoing calls:
- Enter a name or number: Type a name or number in this field at the top to populate a list of options to choose from below. To dial that name or number, simply click on one of the numbers in the list to start a call
- Call from: Select on the downward arrow to populate a list of Caller IDs you can choose from. This is the number the person you’re calling will see
- Recent calls: Select the clock icon to populate a list of your recent calls. If you’d like to callback a person from your Recent calls list, simply select that number from the list to start a call
- Keypad: Press the numbers on the keypad to dial a number and then press the green button to start a call
Using the dial pad for mobile
When you open the dial pad in the mobile app, you’ll find the following options important for making outgoing calls:
- Contacts icon: Tap the person icon at top right of the dial pad to search for the contact you wish to call. Select the contact from the list, then tap the contact’s Extension or Direct number on the contact’s profile
- From: Tap on the downward arrow to the right of the From number to populate a list of Caller IDs you can choose from. This is the number the person you’re calling will see
- Keypad: Press the numbers on the keypad to dial a number and then press the green button to start a call
