Downloading and backing up your account data
============================================

<var class="keyword">
<div style="display: inline;">
RingCentral
</div></var> stores account data for a specific period based on the data type, then deletes it once the retention period ends.

To keep your company's data before it's deleted, you can download it or customize the [data retention policy](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/RingCentral-data-retention-policies.html?brand=RingCentral&product=RingEX&language=en_US "") for your account.

Note
You need admin privileges to download and back up your account data.

To download and back up large amounts of data, you can:

* Use the RingCentral Archiver
* Use the third-party RingClone app
* Use the RingCentral Connect Platform API
* Download your data directly from the [<var class="keyword">
  <div style="display: inline;">
  Admin Portal
  </div></var>](https://service.ringcentral.com "") or the <var class="keyword">
  <div style="display: inline;">
  RingCentral
  </div></var> app on your desktop or web browser

Using RingCentral Archiver to download and back up data
-------------------------------------------------------

[RingCentral Archiver](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/8913.html?brand=RingCentral&product=RingEX&language=en_US "") lets you [back up your data to an external cloud storage service](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/Connecting-to-RingCentral-Archiver.html?brand=RingCentral&product=RingEX&language=en_US ""), including Dropbox, SFTP, Google Drive, and Box. As an admin, you can use RingCentral Archiver for system-wide backups, or you can [grant privileges to individual users](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/Enabling-Archiver-settings-and-permissions.html?brand=RC_US&product=RingEX&language=en_US "").

Archiver is a good option if you want to use a <var class="keyword">
<div style="display: inline;">
RingCentral
</div></var> tool to back up data to cloud storage services.

* RingCentral only backs up data created on or after the day you connect the app to your <var class="keyword">
  <div style="display: inline;">
  RingCentral
  </div></var> account. If you haven't set up Archiver yet, users must download call recordings manually.
* RingCentral Archiver doesn't back up call logs or personal contacts. Those [need to be downloaded manually](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/Viewing-and-managing-your-call-history-in-the-RingCentral-app-and-Admin-Portal.html?brand=RingCentral&product=RingEX&language=en_US "").

Using RingClone to download and back up data
--------------------------------------------

[RingClone](https://www.ringcentral.com/apps/ringclone "") is a third-party app that lets you back up your data to cloud storage services or download it to a local device.

Once you've installed RingClone and integrated it with your <var class="keyword">
<div style="display: inline;">
RingCentral
</div></var> account, you can use filters, such as data type, date, time, and more, to download particular types of data.

Note
RingClone is a good option for users who want to perform highly customized downloads or backups.

Using RingCentral Connect Platform API to download and back up data
-------------------------------------------------------------------

The [RingCentral Connect Platform API](https://developers.ringcentral.com/data-api "") lets admins access and download all of your organization's data. Super Admins can use the API to customize their organization's data retention policy.

We recommend that only developers use the RingCentral Connect Platform API for downloading and backup purposes.
