Handling nuisance calls
=======================

What are nuisance calls?
------------------------

Nuisance calls are unwanted phone calls made for a variety of reasons, including:

* **Telemarketing**: Unsolicited calls promoting a product or service
* **Robocalls**: Pre-recorded messages that play when the phone is answered
* **Scam calls**: Calls that attempt to deceive, such as pretending to be from government agencies
* **Prank calls**: Calls made to annoy or irritate
* **Silent calls**: Calls where the caller remains silent

Many nuisance calls use Caller ID spoofing which is when a caller deliberately falsifies their caller ID to disguise their identity. Scammers often use local numbers or names of trusted organizations to appear legitimate. Their goal is to steal money or personal information for fraudulent activities.

What can I do when I receive a nuisance call?
---------------------------------------------

* **Avoid engagement** :
  * Don't call the number back that appears on your caller ID.
  * If you answer:
    * Don't answer questions, especially those answered with a "yes" or "no".
    * Don't share personal information. Scammers often start a conversation to identify potential targets.
    * If a recording asks you to press a button to stop receiving calls, hang up and block the number.

* **Block and report** : Use the [block call feature](https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/7251.html?brand=RC_US&product=RingEX&language=en_US "") in the <var class="keyword">
