Managing your messages in the RingCentral mobile app
| RingCentral app

Once you or someone else have posted a message in a message thread, there are several actions that you can take on a message in the RingCentral mobile app, including the following:
  • Editing a message you sent
  • Deleting a message you sent
  • Reacting to a post with emojis
  • Bookmarking a message
  • Pinning a message
  • Quoting another person’s message
  • Copying text
  • Marking a message as unread
Let’s learn more about each of these actions below.

Editing a message

If you’d like to edit a message you’ve sent, follow these steps:
1. Navigate to Message via the bottom menu bar
2. Select a conversation from the conversation list
3. Tap and hold on your sent message, then select Edit message in the pop-up menu
4. Tap into the message field and make any changes you’d like
5. Once you’ve finished editing your message, tap the Save text in the top right corner of the message field
Please note that there is a different process for editing a file attached to a message. If you’d like to learn more about editing an attached file, visit Managing attached files in the RingCentral mobile app

Deleting a message

If you’d like to delete a message you’ve posted, follow these steps:
1. Navigate to Message via the bottom menu bar
2. Select a conversation from the conversation list
3. Tap and hold on your sent message, then select Delete message in the pop-up menu
4. Tap Delete in the modal window
Please note: If you’re deleting a message that only contains an attached file and no text, you can tap Delete attachment in the pop-up menu, then tap Delete in the modal window.

Reacting to a post with emojis

Emoji reactions allow you to have a broader set of emoji-based options to react to a post in the RingCentral mobile app. They allow you to express your feeling to a post with an emoji instead of a reply or a simple like thumbs up emoji. You can also upvote another emoji reaction if you agree with that feeling.

Emoji reactions are also a quick way to respond to a post. Oftentimes, a simple emoji reaction can substitute for a follow-up message.

The RingCentral mobile app makes it easy to use emoji reactions. You can use the snackbar quick picker, which contains the emojis you frequently use. It also allows the full array of emojis if you’d like to select one that you don’t often use.

Reacting to a post with emojis via the snackbar

To react to a post with emojis via the snackbar, follow these steps:
1. Tap a conversation from the conversation list to enter that message thread
2. Tap the message you want to react to
3. Tap the smiley face React with emoji icon. Select from the frequently used emojis or tap the smiley face More emojis icon to select from the full array of emojis available
OR
Tap the three-dot icon. Tap Reaction and select from the full array of emojis available

Reacting to a post with emojis via another reaction

If a post already has an emoji reaction, you can also react to that post with emojis next to another reaction. To do this, simply tap the smiley face React with emoji icon beneath a message and select from one the frequently used emojis. To select from the full array of emojis available, tap the smiley face More emojis icon.

If you’d like to upvote another reaction or react using the same emoji, simply tap on the emoji reaction beneath the message. Note that you can react to a post up to 20 times with different emojis. You can also remove your reaction by tapping on your emoji reaction beneath the message.

Bookmarking a message

If you would like to save a message that you want to revisit later but don’t want to include in a conversation’s pinned messages, you can choose to bookmark that message and return to it later.

To bookmark a message, follow these steps:
1. Select a conversation from the conversation list
2. Tap and hold on the message, then select the three-dot icon
3. Tap Bookmark in the pop-up menu

Viewing bookmarked messages

Once you’ve bookmarked a message, you can access that bookmark by following these steps:
1. Tap the three-dot icon in the top right-hand corner of the app
2. Select Bookmarks in the pop-up menu
Here, you’ll find all your bookmarks listed with the pinned message or the most recent bookmarks at the top.

To see that bookmark in the conversation it was included in, simply tap on the bookmarked message.

Pinning a message

There may be times where you would like to save an important message that you think you or someone else will want to revisit later, you can choose to pin that message in the conversation.

To pin a message, follow these steps:
1. Select a conversation from the conversation list
2. Tap and hold on the message, then select Pin in the pop-up menu
You can follow the same steps if you want to pin messages containing no text and only events, tasks, attached files, and notes.

1. Select a conversation from the conversation list

To unpin the message, tap and hold the message, then select Unpin in the pop-up menu.

Quoting a message

If you would like to reply to a message made earlier in a conversation stream, you may choose to quote that message in addition to drafting a reply in order to inform the sender of the original message that you’re responding to their message.

To quote a message, follow these steps:
1. Select a conversation from the conversation list
2. Tap and hold on the message, then select Quote message in the pop-up menu
3. Type your reply in the message field under the quoted message
4. Once you’re finished drafting your message, tap the airplane icon to send that message
Please note: You will not be able to quote messages that only contain attached files, notes, tasks, or events.

Copying a message

If you would like to copy a message in a conversation, follow these steps:
1. Select a conversation from the conversation list
2. Tap and hold on the message, then select Copy in the pop-up menu
Please note that if the message that you copied contains @mention, the name of the mentioned group or contact will be copied as plain text.

Marking a message as unread

As a user, you can put a mark on a post that you haven’t finished reading, so that you can continue reading from where you left off the next time you enter the conversation.

To mark a message as unread, follow these steps:
1. Select a conversation from the conversation list
2. Tap and hold on the message, then select the Mark as unread flag icon in the pop-up menu
Please note: This step will mark all messages that come after this message (including this message) as unread.
