Using the Click-to-Dial feature in the RingCentral app

The click-to-dial feature allows you to register the RingCental desktop app as a default app on your Windows or Mac computer to handle click-to-dial and click-to-fax. When this setting is on, the RingCentral app for desktop will automatically launch when you click on any telephone or fax number on websites that support callto:, Tel:, and fax: protocols.

To use the click-to-dial feature on your computer in the RingCentral app, your app administrator must first enable phone features at the account level. You must also ensure that you set the RingCentral app as the default phone app for calling and that your emergency address is up to date. Configuring Click-to-Dial on Windows and Mac

By default, the click-to-dial feature is off and the RingCentral app for desktop is not registered as a default app. To configure the click-to-dial feature on the RingCentral app for desktop, follow these steps:
1. Navigate to Settings via the left navigation bar.
2. Click the Phone tab on the left pane.
3. Under General, click the toggle switch at far right of Click to dial/fax to enable or disable the click-to-dial feature.
How to register RC as the default app for calling and faxing
After enabling the click-to-dial/fax setting in the RingCentral app, you will then need to check your operating system settings to make sure that the RingCentral app is set as the default app for calls and fax. Let’s review below how you can do this on your Windows or Mac computer.

Setting default app for click-to-dial/fax on Windows

To set the RingCentral app for desktop as the default app for click-to-dial/fax on Windows, follow these steps:
1. Navigate to Settings via the Windows menu.
2. Click System.
3. Click Default apps and then select Choose default apps by protocol.
4. Click Choose a default on the right side of CALLTO.
5. On the Choose an app modal window, select RingCentral.
6. Click Choose a default on the right side of FAX.
7. On the Choose an app modal window, select RingCentral.

Setting default app for click-to-dial/fax on Mac

To set the RingCentral app for desktop as the default app for click-to-dial/fax on Mac, you will need to set it in the FaceTime app. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Open the FaceTime app via the menu bar on your Mac computer.
2. Click FaceTime.
3. Click Preferences.
4. Click the dropdown menu for Default for calls and select RingCentral.

Using Click-to-Dial on Windows and Mac

Once you have ensured that the information above is completed, you can start using the click-to-dial feature in the RingCentral app for desktop. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Ensure that you are logged in to the RingCentral app for desktop for the automatic launching to work.
2. Click on the number you wish to call on a website page.

3. On the Make a call from modal window, select RingCentral to open the dial pad in the RingCentral app for desktop and automatically make a call.
