Using RingCentral Virtual backgrounds

You can personalize your meetings and remove background distractions by displaying a photo, GIF, or video as your background during a meeting using RingCentral Virtual backgrounds. You can upload your own files or choose from the available background options.

Note: Before using a virtual background, make sure your device meets the system requirements.

Using a virtual background with RingCentral Video in the desktop app

  1. Go to Settings in the left navigation bar.
  2. Select Video in the left panel.
  3. Click Edit to the right of Video meeting settings.

Note: If you want to select or change your virtual background during a meeting, click More in the bottom menu bar of the meeting.
  1. Select Background & effects.
  2. Select the background you’d like to use or click the plus icon to upload your own. You can use MOV or MP4 video files smaller than 100 MB.
Note: The virtual background you select will be used for future meetings until you   
change it.
Background & effects

Virtual background settings:

  • Mirror my video: See yourself like you do in the mirror. Other people will always see you unmirrored. Text and images shown in your video will look correct to others, even if they look backwards to you. 
  • Improve my appearance with the virtual background: Your video will automatically adjust its brightness to your selected background and make you appear more realistically inside the virtual background scene. This setting won’t be available if you’re using a green or blue screen.
  • I have a green or blue screen: Using a green screen will enhance your virtual background. For the best experience, have a solid background behind you.
Note: Before using a virtual background, make sure your device meets the system requirements.

Using a virtual background with RingCentral Video in the mobile app

  1. Tap your profile picture at the top left of the RingCentral mobile app.
  2. Tap Video > Virtual background.
Note: If you want to select or change your virtual background during a meeting, tap More at the bottom right, then tap Virtual background.
  1. Tap the photo or video you’d like to use or tap the plus icon to add one from your phone’s library. 
    • If you want to use a photo or video from your phone’s library, select it, then tap Done at the bottom of your screen (iOS) or the plus icon at the bottom right (Android). You can use MOV or MP4 video files smaller than 100 MB.
  2. If you’re in a meeting, tap the arrow at the top left to go back to the meeting screen.

Using RingCentral Video’s Background & effects features in the RingCentral app for desktop and web

RingCentral Video’s Virtual Background features lets participants use videos, still images, or GIFs as their backgrounds. Users can use default images or upload their own.
 
Note: Before you use Virtual Background, make sure your device meets RingCentral Video’s system requirements.

How to use Background & effects with still images

  1. In a RingCentral Video meeting, click the More button at the bottom right.
  2. Select Background & effects to open the Settings window.
  3. Select your preferred background image from the list or click the + symbol to add your own image. 
  4. Once you’ve selected a background image, you can also select Mirror my video, Improve my appearance with the virtual background, and I have a green or blue screen. See Virtual Background Settings below.​​​

How to use Background & effects with videos

  1. In a RingCentral Video meeting, click the More button at the bottom right.
  2. Select Background & effects to open the Settings window.
  3. Select your preferred background image from the list or click the + symbol to add your own video. 
  4. Once you’ve selected a background image, you can also select Mirror my video, Improve my appearance with the virtual background, and I have a green or blue screen. See Virtual Background Settings below.​​​
  • Video requirements:
  • Less than 100MB
  • Supported video formats:
    • MP4
    • OGG
    • WEBM

How to use Background & effects with GIFs

  1. In a RingCentral Video meeting, click the More button at the bottom right.
  2. Select Background & effects to open the Settings window.
  3. Select your preferred GIF by clicking the + symbol. 
  4. Once you’ve selected a background GIF, you can also select Mirror my video, Improve my appearance with the virtual background, and I have a green or blue screen. See Virtual Background Settings below.​​​

How to enable Background & effects before a meeting

  1. In the RingCentral app, click the Settings icon in the left navigation bar.
  2. Select Video from the left panel.
  3. Click Edit at the far right of Video meeting settings to open the Settings window.
  4. Select Background & effects.
  5. Select the photo, video, or GIF you’d like to display when you’re in a meeting.

Virtual Background settings

  • Mirror my video: The default setting. The meeting participants will see your image in standard orientation (unmirrored). If you turn this setting off, you’ll see yourself as others see you.
  • Improve my appearance with the virtual background: Your video’s brightness will adjust automatically to better correspond to your selected background, and to make you appear more realistically in the virtual background scene. Not available if you’re using a green or blue screen.
  • I have a green or blue screen: You have a solid backdrop that is green or blue. Your selection will be applied to all features using a green or blue screen.​​​
