Setting up autonomous single app mode on iPad

An admin can set up an iPad in kiosk mode so that everyone can use the RingCentral Rooms app on the iPad controller. This article shows you how to set up autonomous Single app mode on the iPad in Workspace ONE, so the RingCentral Rooms controller runs without interruption from other apps or loss of connection. 
 
To set up single app mode, you will need to
  • Supervise your iPad controller so it can be managed by a Mobile Device Management tool
  • Enroll your device in a Mobile Device Management so it can be controlled remotely
  • Set up a configuration profile to enable single app mode

Setting up supervised mode on the iPad

Supervised mode allows the admin to control the connection of the iPad controller and host TV.
  1. Open the Apple App Store, search for Apple Configurator 2, and install the free app.
  2. Use the standard USB cable to connect your iPad to your Mac.
  3. Open Apple Configurator 2.
  4. Select the connected device and click Prepare on the toolbar at the top to prepare the device for supervision.

  1. Select Manual Configuration and click Next to continue with the manual supervision configuration.

  1. Select Do not enroll in MDM and click Next.
  2. Select your organization and click Next to continue. If your organization doesn’t show up, you need to add a new organization.
  3. Click Skip to bypass the Apple ID.
  4. Enter your organization name and click Next.
  5. Click Prepare; your device will automatically reset.

Helpful hint!

Note: Apple Configurator will wipe your iPad device after you click Prepare.
  1. Once the device has reset, it will be in Supervised Mode. This will be reflected in the Settings menu.

Enrolling device in a Mobile Device Management (MDM)

A mobile device management is used with a third-party product to help manage certain features of mobile devices.
  1. Open the Apple App Store, search for Intelligent Hub, and download the app on your iPad.
  2. Open Intelligent Hub, input the server address and click Next
  3. Input the group ID and click Next.
  4. Sign in with your credentials and click Next.
  5. Tap Download profile, and it will take you to ws1.ecscloud.com to download a profile.

  1. Once the profile is downloaded, go to your device settings.
  2. Click Profile Downloaded in the left navigation bar.
  3. Click Install to install the downloaded profile to your device.

Setting up a configuration profile

Configuration profiles help manage the settings and configurations of different device features.
  1. Go to https://ws1.ecscloud.com/.
  2. Click Devices for the left bar, then under the Profiles & Resources dropdown, select Profiles
  3. Click Add Profile to continue.

  1. Select Apple iOS.
  2. Under the General tab, enter your profile name and select a smart group. 
  3. Select the Single App mode tab in the left bar and click Configure.
  4. Select Permitted apps for autonomous single app mode and enter the Bundle ID. 
  5. Click Save and Publish. The profile has been published on the device.

  1. Go to Devices, then List view
  2. Select the device you have assigned to open Details View.
  3. Under the Profiles tab, select the profile, then click Install. The profile will be installed on the device.

  1. Navigate to the iPad’s Settings. Go to General > Profiles & Device Management > Device Manager
  2. Click Restrictions. Restrictions display as ‘Autonomous Single App Mode permissions added.’
After the profile is published and installed on the iPad device, the kiosk mode will automatically turn on once the Room controller app is launched.
