Engage Digital | Adding a saved insight

As mentioned in Dashboards overview, your dashboards are where you can view your insight widgets and KPI widgets. To access your dashboards, navigate to Dashboards via the left hand navigation bar. When you do this, you will arrive at the Dashboards page where you will see a sidebar just to the right of the left-hand navigation bar.

To create a new dashboard, click on Add dashboard at the top of the sidebar. This will take you to the blank canvas where you can drag and drop created insights or new KPIs. You can also edit an existing dashboard by opening the dashboard from the sidebar and selecting the Edit pencil icon to the right of the dashboard name.

Insights are created in Analytical Designer, but KPIs are created in the dashboard canvas. If you would like to learn more about creating an insight, you can read about it in Creating an Insight

There’s a search bar just under Saved Insights where you can search for saved insights. Just under the search bar are two tabs where you can view separate insights. Under the created by me tab are insights you created, while under the all tab are all the insights within your organization. Once you locate the insight you want to add, you can drag and drop it onto the dashboard.

Under the dashboard name in the dashboard canvas is where you can assign filters. By default, the Date range filter is automatically configured and cannot be removed. You can, however, add more filters by dragging Attribute Filter from the left side to the white bar where the Date range filter is located. Doing this will reveal a list of attribute filters you can choose from. Attributes are non-measurable descriptors used to break down metrics and measures and represent qualitative data. They are used to group, slice, filter, and reorder data.

Adding saved insights

Creating a dashboard or adding an insight to a dashboard is fast and easy. However, keep in mind that you need to configure your insights before you start using them to analyze data.

When you are ready to add a saved insight to a new dashboard, follow these steps:
1. Click on Analytics in the main menu.
2. Navigate to Dashboards via the left-hand navigation bar.
3. Click on Add dashboard at the top of the sidebar.
4. Under Saved insights use the search bar, the created by me tab, or the all tab to select a saved report.
5. Drag the insight you want to the canvas on the right. Once you drop the insight, it will generate the data visualizations of that particular insight.
6. A popup filter menu will appear by the widget. Under Filter by, check the Date box if you want to filter by date started or ended. If not, uncheck the box.
7. Repeat steps 3-5 if you want to add additional insight widgets to your dashboard.
8. At the top of the canvas is the title of the dashboard. Click to rename.
9. Inside the canvas just below the Date range filter is the widget section title. Click to rename.
10. Below the widget section title is its description. Click to add a description.
11. Click the Save & Publish button on the top right.
You can also add attribute filters. Drag and drop the Attribute Filter from the left side to the white bar where the Date range filter is located. This will reveal a dropdown menu that allows you to choose and configure specific attribute filters.

After saving and publishing a dashboard, you can edit it later if you want to add more widgets or revise the current widget’s configuration. If you want to delete an existing insight widget, you can simply click on the widget while in edit mode and then click on the trash can icon that appears in the insight’s upper right corner.

You can also delete a dashboard by selecting Edit and then Delete from the right upper menu. Deleting a dashboard also deletes all alerts and scheduled emails for the dashboard.

Now that you’ve added at least one insight to your dashboard, you may want to start configuring them.

Using Filters

There are three places you can find filter options and all three can affect the data displayed by your dashboard or filter.
  • Global dashboard filter: Filters that are found at the top of your dashboard, just below your dashboard name. Also called Attribute Filter in the left-hand pane of your canvas.
Insight filter
  • Insight filter: Filters you choose when you create an insight in Analytical Designer when you drag an attribute to the filter section. When creating a dashboard and adding the insight to it, you can toggle which insight filter you want applied to the added insight by going to Configuration > Filter by in the popup window.

For example, you create an insight in Analytical Designer and you name it Agent Team Engaged Time, filtered by ‘Agent Team’ and ‘Engaged.’ You then go to Dashboards to create a new dashboard and include Agent Team Engaged Time to it. You go and add two Attribute Filters to the dashboard, also ‘Agent Team’ and 'Engaged’. This means there are two filter conditions being applied to the data inside Agent Team Engaged Time. First is the insight filter you added in Analytical Designer, and the second is the Global dashboard filter.

To learn more about filter logic, read Date filters and Attribute filters.

Insight filter
  • Filter in the attribute: When creating an insight, these are the filters you will see when you drag a measure or an attribute from the data catalog to the Measures section of your canvas, and expand that measure or attribute and click on the Add attribute filter button. Not to be confused with Attribute Filter in the dashboard.
Adding a saved report
When creating or editing a dashboard, a dashboard and an insight can have their own filters. However, there’s a difference between how a date filter and an Attribute Filter will be applied.

Date filters

When you add an insight to a dashboard, the insight will be filtered by the dashboard date filter. The insight may include date filters as well. To disable the dashboard filter, select the More icon at the upper right of the insight, go to Configuration > Filter by in the popup window, and uncheck the Date checkbox.

Here’s how date filters are applied:

Dashboard filter
Insight filter
Result
No date filter applied.
Insight filter is applied, if Configuration > Filter by > Date checkbox is unchecked.
✓
Dashboard date filter.
Dashboard date filter, if the same date range or dimension is used in both filters.

Attribute filters

Attribute filters are different from insight filters as attribute filters are applied to the whole dashboard and not just to specific insights or KPIs. Attributes and filters that contain a start time or end time will use the timezone for the domain where the segment started or ended. Note that filtering by the agent’s timezone is not supported.

To see a list of attribute filters, head on to Understanding measures and attributes.

Here’s how attribute filters are applied:

Insight attribute filter is applied. Disable this by going to Configuration > Filter by and unchecking the attribute filter.

Insight filter takes precedence over the dashboard filter if the same attributes are used in both.
