Engage Voice | Creating an IVR

Before we dive into creating an IVR, let’s get started by creating an IVR group. As in other areas of the platform, you must first create a group before you can create any of its components, so before we create an IVR, let’s first create an IVR group to house those IVRs.

IVR groups can be used to organize IVRs into separate groups, but you can also create one group for all your IVRs.

If you’re ready to create an IVR group, follow these simple steps:
1. Navigate to IVR > IVR designer via the left-hand navigation bar
2. Click the New Group button at upper right
3. Choose a name for your group and enter it in the Name field
4. Save your changes via the Save button at bottom right

Creating an IVR

Now that you’ve created an IVR group, let’s create an IVR. When you’re ready, follow these steps:
1. Navigate to IVR > IVR designer via the left nav bar
2. Hover your mouse over the IVR group under which you’d like to create your IVR and click the New IVR plus icon that appears at far right
3. Enter a name for your IVR in the Name field
4. Add descriptive information in the Description field
5. Check the Enable Debug box and supply an email in the Debug Email field (optional)
6. Save your changes by clicking the Save button at bottom right
Please note that these are the initial steps required before you can actually begin building your IVR. Don’t worry, we’ll get to the actual building process once we move on to IVR Studio.

Configuring IVR settings

Now that we’ve reviewed the initial IVR creation steps, let’s review some of the settings you’ll find in the General configuration page.
  • Name: Use this field to supply a name for your IVR (this is a required field)
  • Description: Use this field to save any additional information about your IVR
  • Enable Debug: Check this box if you’d like to receive an informative email after each call made to this IVR. Debug emails include a step-by-step analysis of each call process, which can be used to identify any possible issues
  • Debug Email: Enter an email address where you’d like the system to send all debug emails
Now that you’ve created an IVR group and begun the IVR creation process, you’re ready to start configuring your IVR. Keep in mind that the system will not allow you to click on the other configuration panel tabs until — at a minimum — you’ve supplied a name for your IVR and clicked the Save button.
