Engage Voice | Intro to IVR Studio

Now that we’ve reviewed the introductory steps for creating an IVR, let’s talk about the process of actually building an IVR.

When building an IVR, you’ll spend the majority of your time in IVR Studio. This is where you’ll design and configure your IVRs. IVR Studio contains a drag-and-drop interface and allows you to build a visual representation of the potential actions you wish to provide for your callers.

You can build your IVRs in IVR Studio using nodes, which are visual tools that represent each of the actions you can include in your IVRs, such as playing a recording or receiving touch-tone or speech-based input. When connected, nodes will form a chain of potential actions — that is, a potential IVR call flow.

You can reach IVR Studio by navigating to IVR > IVR Designer via the left-hand navigation bar and selecting an IVR from the IVR groups page. From there, you can click on the IVR Studio tab in the configuration panel at far left, and the studio will open in a new tab in your browser.

Navigating IVR Studio

The first thing you’ll see when you navigate to IVR Studio is a blank background upon which you’ll build the different pathways for your IVRs. At far left, you’ll notice a toolbar — referred to as a palette. This palette contains all the nodes you can use to create your call flows.

In the top right-hand corner, you’ll find a few settings. Use the Save button to save your changes as often as you can. If you make a mistake and wish to undo it, you can select the Revert button to undo all the changes you’ve made since the last time you saved.

Finally, you can use the plus and minus buttons at any time to zoom in and out of the IVR’s background.
