Engage Voice | DNC scrubbing

As we discussed in Intro to outbound compliance tools, DNC scrubbing is the process of removing numbers from lead lists that should not be called in outbound campaigns. In addition, scrubbing can be categorized as either internal or external –– depending on whether you are scrubbing against an internal DNC list inside the platform or a third-party DNC list outside the platform.

Keep in mind that if you want to apply internal scrubbing to your campaigns and lead lists, you will first need to be sure you have created an internal DNC list using the DNC Manager

If you want to apply external scrubbing to your campaigns and lead lists, you will first need access to the third-party DNC list you want to scrub against.

External scrubbing based on cellular DNC lists is included in your subscription to the platform. Although it requires a third party, you do not have to purchase a subscription on your own. If you want to be sure all cellular numbers are scrubbed, just be sure you choose an option that includes cellular scrubbing when you configure your outbound compliance tools.

If you want to scrub numbers against external state and federal lists, then you must have your own subscription via DNC.com. Once you purchase a subscription, you will be given a DNC Registry Organization ID, which is the ID you use to log in, not your SAN (Subscription Account Number). You can then pass this information along to your product support team, who can ensure that your account is registered for external scrubbing.

After you have created your internal DNC list using the DNC Manager and ensured that you have access to any external lists you want to scrub against, you are ready to activate scrubbing in relation to your campaigns and lead lists.

Here we will discuss in more detail how to go about configuring your campaign and lead lists to  successfully enable scrubbing. We will also discuss what is required to enable Real-time scrubbing.

Using DNC Scrub options in campaign compliance tools

When you configure a campaign, you can determine which type(s) of scrubbing you want to be applied to the lead lists uploaded to that campaign.

You can access compliance tools for DNC scrubbing by navigating to the General tab in your campaign’s configuration panel and scrolling down to the Compliance Tools section.

Information on the options you have for these compliance tools can be found in Configuring campaign compliance tools.

Using DNC scrubbing when uploading a new lead list

As we mentioned in the section above, you have various options for scrubbing when you configure a campaign. Whichever scrubbing options you choose when you configure your campaign will apply to all lead lists you upload for that campaign.

However, you also have some options for scrubbing when you upload a new lead list to a campaign. As you configure a new lead list, you can enter tags that you’ve created in the DNC Manager. The tags you enter when uploading a new list tell the system which numbers in the DNC Manager to scrub the new list against.

Complete instructions for uploading lead lists can be found in Uploading a new lead list.

Using Real-time scrubbing

Real-time scrubbing is a contextual verification system. Unlike other DNC functions native to the platform, this type of scrubbing does not permanently block a number from being called. For example, a lead that is not available for dialing at 11am might be available for dialing at 4pm the same day.

Real-time scrubbing is enabled at the campaign level. However, this will need to be configured by your product support team. You will need to obtain a third-party subscription to a real-time scrubbing service and provide your product support team with the integration URL.
